GAZAPIZM FT GAYE SU AKYOL - PERIŞAN (RAP, TURKEY)

Anil Acar is better known as Gazapizm, a Turkish rapper with a reputation for being forward thinking and politically vocal against the current socio-economic backdrop surrounding Turkey. Similarly Gaye Su Akyol, a dark-folk-pop solo artist from Istanbul is an active voice using her musicality to highlight the aforementioned political climate. Together, their collaborative efforts brazenly verbalise topical national issues whilst producing a stark and emboldened track.

With a music video that plummets you into a dystopian animated reality, reflecting the political turmoil and civil unrest in Turkey, "Perişan", which roughly translates as "Miserable" surges forth with a sense of foreboding as thumping beats interact manically with local percussion amid Gazapizm's acidic lyrics and vociferous rapping; frenetic in places, almost hurried even, the emotions and sensory experience is nothing short of exceptional giving the listener an atmospheric sense of aggravation and post-apocalyptic notions.

Dropping like a lead weight, Gaye Su Akyol's ethereal and haunting harmonies serve as a dynamic shift in pace to convey a sense of disparity, an interlude that echoes deep like a clarion call, an emotive outcry. This is not your average rap artist meets solo musician thoroughfare. Here these two notably different talents have produced a powerful song with a provocative and stimulating message.
