FEDEZ - "BELLA STORIA" (POP, ITALY)
Federico Leonardo Lucia is better known as Fedez, an Italian singer/songwriter, rapper and media influencer who hails from Milan. Known for fusing a cacophony of musical styles together from urban low-vibe to vocoded glamour pop, the artist is certainly popular within his native country. Having raised money for local hospitals during the continuing Coronavirus pandemic through staging concerts, Fedez has still managed to put out new music. His latest offering in the form of "Bella Storia" is a flirtatious pop extravagance that is catchy and fun.
This latest single immediately nudges Fedez onto the centre stage whereby brooding monotone vocals bound forth with trepidation and gusto against a minimalised backdrop of eighties neon keys and constrained drum beats. "Bella Storia" is piquant in its entirety with a tempo that continually lathers each chorus arrangement with a variety of musical inputs: luminous synths, heated Miami beats and glittered digital soundscapes all vie for attention as Fedez demonstrates Italo-disco pop at its contemporary best. Retro in some ways, modern in others, such a contrast generates a type of exciting audio frisson waiting to break free of its pop constraints.
