SIMI - "NO LONGER BENEFICIAL" (R'n'B, NIGERIA)

Simi is a singer/songwriter who hails from Lagos, Nigeria and has been a reputable household name in her country for many years. Using her experience of singing in a choir as well as intrepidly exploring music genres has allowed the solo artist to carve out a distinct sound that gently fuses her dulcet tones, direct lyrical penmanship and smooth R'n'B deftness into something that is exceptional to listen to.

Lifted from her latest EP "Restless II", "No Longer Beneficial" is a salacious meander into the complexities of a 'friends with benefits' circumstance that, as the title may insinuate, becomes a little too complicated; something that will strike a chord and resonate with many. It is that mixture of humility that the listener can tangibly feel and appreciate coupled with brazen strength in owning this particular situation, two very different actions, that somehow expertly mirrors Simi and her work. 

That type of sincerity, that juxtaposition of elements, can often be lost in the overarching sense within the genre. "No Longer Beneficial" is a breath of fresh air as sensual keys wallow between tentative Afrobeats and incandescent instrumentals, all whilst Simi's vocals transcend opulently across the foreground to nurture a velvety R'n'B soul jam with depth.
