SAWEETIE FT JHENÉ AIKO -" BACK TO THE STREETS" (R'n'B, USA)

Diamonté Quiava Valentin Harper is better known professionally as Saweetie, a Californian rapper/hip-hop artist whose dynamic collaborations and effervescent lyrics place her firmly in the new school of emerging female rappers alongside Ruby Rose, Tinashe and Mulatto. However, Saweetie has a unique sound that deftly amalgamates genres, channelling conflicting sounds and beats into something that now typifies the young artist. After the successes of "Icy Girl", "My Type" and "Tap In" the US rapper gifts us another bejewelled slab of musical delights which will be present on her new LP "Pretty Bitch Music".

Having championed the US artist for sometime, her latest release "Back To The Streets" marks a notable shift from Saweetie's usual hip-hop thoroughfares as she explores alternative instrumentation; jazz-soaked piano keys coax forth a sense of hazy nineties slow-jam nostalgia and rhythmic velour whilst remaining minimal in places, restrained even it could be said. This allows the music to breathe. Co-produced by Timbaland, this latest jaunt meanders between pooling beats and Saweetie's ruminative lyrics. Spitting brutal honesty with a silkened panache, the rapper divulges the tribulations of 'F**k boys' and owning the situation, "Ride around town 'til I leave, I gave that boy a round and sent him back to the streets". That independence and sheer ownership empowers the listener. This is melodic R'n'B fused with retro beats at its best.
