VALLEY - "SUCKS TO SEE YOU DOING BETTER" (INDIE-POP, CANADA)
Valley are from Oakville, Canada and came together as two bands double booked at the same time at their local recording studio. They then decided to merge into one. That type of chance encounter a la Bridget Jones' Diary matchmaking is something that has since proven to be a great outcome if their brand of dayglow indie-pop is anything to go by. Rob, Michael, Alex and Karah have since maintained momentum with a newly released EP in the form of "Sucks To See You Doing Better" which also happens to be the title track.
Detailing the bittersweet aftermath of a failed relationship where we all secretly hope that that dreaded ex is doing terribly in life is a moment we can all relate to; like bumping into them at the off licence when you are wearing a stained hoodie, flip flips over socks buying Blossom Hill wine while they look fabulous. That moment has happened to us all. The lyrical sincerity of "Sucks To See You Doing Better" makes this a very transparent and honest auditory outpouring verging on Scandinavian melancholy as hazy dual harmonies wisp the edges of dewy guitar smacks and redolent synthesised pools in rhythmic fashion. With lovable charm each chorus culminates with electronic verve meets indie-pop adolescence in a style reminiscent of Fickle Friends or CHVRCHES to produce a record soaked in prismatic hues and comforting musical whimsicality.
