WINNETKA BOWLING LEAGUE - "COME TO THE BEACH" (THE KNOCKS REMIX) (SYNTH-POP, USA)
Los Angeles based Winnekta Bowling League have been making the right impressions from across the pond courtesy of their inviting blend of sunkissed surf-pop meets charming indie. The band itself is fronted by Michael Koma, who has previously worked with artists ranging from Bruce Springsteen to Zedd; with such a back catalogue, it comes as no surprise that one of Koma's previous dealings, fellow US electronic duo The Knocks have sprinkled some vibrant digitalism across the band's single "Come To The Beach", a track lifted from their latest EP "Congratulations" and turned it into bonafide Californian dream.
Though not Winnetka Bowling League's latest single, this glossy reinvention by The Knocks allows echoed warbles and genteel harmonies to waft hazily across a myriad of warming beats and rhythmic tempo. Each lyric is an introspective observation of the complexities of life whilst juxtapositionally allowing escapism to take centre stage, "Come to the beach, chill by the sea, see how heavy your life looks from the coastline". Harnessing that specific power through a song, allowing the listener to still remain realistic whilst paving a proverbial path of optimism is something quite extraordinary. The entirety of "Come To The Beach" remains consistently sweetened and feel-good as evocative alt-pop laps against nostalgic surf melodies and summer musings to produce something rather lovely indeed.
